IGLA 2008 - Atlanta Water Jocks Place 1st in the Men's Small Team Category!

The Atlanta Water Jocks placed first in the Men's Small Team category at this year's IGLA Championships. The championships were short-course meters (SCM) and held in Washington, DC from June 18-22. The following team members competed/attended the championships: Jon Freeman, Lorenzo Benucci, Matthew Bailey, Steve Mortimer, Rusty Burns, and David Eng. May individual firsts were achieved, including the following (within their respective age groups): Steve (35-39) - 200 IM, 50 Back; Lorenzo (40-44) - 100 Free, 200 IM, 100 Breast, 200 Free, 100 IM; Matthew (45-49) - 1500 Free, 800 Free, 200 Free. Congratulations to the Jocks!

Auburn Invitational - February 16-17, 2008, Auburn, AL

Several AWJ team members traveled to Auburn for the annual Auburn Invitational, including: Mandy Adams, Alicia Cardillo, Heidi Natkin, Oliver Gumbrill, Andrew Perry, Lorenzo Benucci, Jeffrey Tacca, David Eng, Andy Dyer, Clayton Angell, Bob Brown, Bob Couch, and Coach Pat Frank. The team placed 4th in the overall standings.

Lorenzo Benucci - World Record Holder!

Lorenzo, our very own AWJ team member, captured the world record in the 200 IM (age group 40-44) with a time of 2:14.29 while in Italy competing in the first bi-annual Florence Meet. Congratulations Lorenzo! Not only did he capture the world record, but he also set Dixie Zone record in the 400 IM. Below are pictures from he and Mary Lerchen's Italy excursion!
